New Adsense Changes, Google API and Google+

Major Changes to Google’s AdSense
Google has made the first major changes in many years to it’s publisher ad platform AdSense. Most of the changes relate to ad sizes, fonts and calls to action, and are mostly in reaction to the growth of mobile devices. Figuring out a way to capitalize on mobile advertising is a common problem for Google as well as others like Facebook that rely on advertising revenue.

Third Party Agency Tools Losing Access to Google API
It has been a rough few weeks for third party developers of internet marketing tools. Google is giving them the chose of using their API, or scraping data such as ranking reports. But they can’t do both says Google.

SEOmoz lost access earlier last month, but didn’t give specific reasons. Ahrefs is also removing scraping functionality in order to maintain Google API access. And now Raven Tools is drastically changing their tool having to remove scraped data in order to keep the Google API.

Google+ Hits 135 Active Million Users

Google announced Google+ Communities which are meant to be a way to follow certain interests. While making the announcement, they also released the latest Google+ numbers, claiming 135 million “in stream” users, 235 million active users across other Google properties, and 500 million enabled accounts.

Many people claim or at least feel, that Google+ is ghost town, with the only active members being internet marketing users and early adopters. It certainly feels that way to some, and until mom and dad start showing up on the network, it doesn’t feel like Facebook will be threatened too much.
